Two weeks until we set off

Now that we have sorted out some of the things that needed doing on our new house, we can turn our thoughts to going out on the waterways once again.  We've also done all the jobs on Leo that we wanted to do during the winter, including fitting a solar panel, so hopefully we can stay a few days in any nice spots without flattening the batteries.  We now aim to set off from near Derby on the first May Bank Holiday weekend, but we've changed our plans of which way we are going, though the general aim to head South remains.

We are now going to retrace our steps to Fradley junction and then we will turn left onto the Coventry Canal.  We want to go up the Ashby Canal as we head towards Coventry and Rugby, having read good things of this canal.  After that detour we'll travel the Oxford Canal down to Oxford to join the Thames.  If we can escape the floods this year we really want to do the upper Thames to Lechlade.

Beyond that the Kennet and Avon beckons, but that will be a pleasure to leave until June.

Watch this space - the next posting will be when we are on our way.  We will be e mailing friends as we get close to them in the hope that we can meet as we travel around.

Happy boating to our many narrowboat friends.
