We plan to drive down to Leo on Sunday this week (12th May) and then our boating summer will begin. We have just come back from three weeks in the Outer Hebrides (without Leo), hence the delay in setting off this year.
Leo is presently on the Middle Levels and our first plan is to cross the Wash from Wisbech to Boston. I spoke to our pilot for the trip this morning and it looks at present, subject to any change in the weather, that we will do the crossing on Thursday 16th. Assuming all goes well our next posting on this blog will be from Boston. If we make a mess of it, then the next posting might be from Amsterdam!
After that excitement, our broad aim is to cruise the northern waterways, so after exploring some of the navigable drains round Boston we will cruise up the River Witham and the Foss Dyke to Torksey and down the tidal River Trent. We would like to go up the Chesterfield Canal from West Stockwith so that will be an aim before we reach the northern rivers.
Watch this space for updates.
